Eames LAX: Lounge Height Armchair with thin gauge steel X base
Designed by Charles and Ray Eames

Shell: Parchment Fiberglass Resin.
Base: All original Zinc plated super low Lounge height thin gauge steel X base with boot glides

Condition: Excellent++
-some age appropriate discoloration to the back of shell
-some surface rust to the base


This particular chair is a very first year production manufactured by Zenith Plastics and distributed by Herman Miller.

It looks to be the earliest example because of its very rich fiber contents, thicker resin than usual Zenith chair.
And the base is lower than usual lounge X-base and made of thinner gauge steel rod than usual Zenith X-bases.
The fiberglass resin shell is thicker and it has much more fibers than usual Zenith chairs and the fibers are so shiny, almost metallic it makes the shell look Gold in color.
It's one of the best example of the earliest Zenith parchment shells.

It is very reasonable to believe this particular chair could be a prototype or pre-production chair.
It has all that pre-production quality distinguished from any other Zenith chairs.

-0.25 inch factory resin imperfection void on the left armrest exposing fibers inside

It has larger rubber mounts, rope edge, translucent resin with lots of fibers and a square Herman Miller/Zenith Plastics decal label
